My hair care routine

I have been receiving a lot of compliments for my hair, from my Estonian colleagues. My personal opinion about my hair, its very thick, strong, and wavy, but nothing great, so i never really thought i had a great hair care routine.

But now that my friends here pestered me to know about my hair care routine, did i realize that i was unknowingly taking good care of my hair....Since my Mom used to do it, for me since childhood, it had become a habit for me, and i never realized that i had a good hair care routine set for myself...

Here's what i do:

Take 1 cup of coconut oil, since i am a Keralite, and come from a place where you find lot of coconuts around, i get coconut oil from either of my parents side...

Heat this oil with curry leaves, until curry leaves turn black, Strain it...

Now add 1/2 cup sessame oil and 1/4 cup mustard oil. Mix it, and store it in a bottle.

I apply this oil before my hair bath, and keep it for just 30 mins, as i have an oily skin, i hate keeping it for longer...

Then just wash your hair with a shampoo, and i prefer using herbal hair conditioner Vatika...

You can add a lot of variations to this oil like olive, castor, jojoba, but Remember, Coconut, Mustard and Sessame are the base oils, and you need them for sure..

As per my Mom, Coconut oil for the general well being of the hair, length, moisture

Mustard for the black color

Sessame for smoothness, and black color.

Charcoal Scrub

I have been running out of my scrub routine since months, and with a very free weekend my skin demanded some attention. I didnt want the same age old Everyouth scrub, its not that i dont like it, just that, i am a kind of person, who gets bored of things pretty easily...........
I have been trying pretty hard to get hold of Biotique Papaya scrub, which Tanveer has tempted me to buy...but unfortunately its always out of stock at the place that i go for...

This prompted me to create a homemade scrub, since it was a lazy weekend, and i had all the time in the world to experiment....

Anamika from wiseshe.com, had recently posted a review on Lush Coal cleanser, which just enticed me.......but the pricing part, Rs 600 for a 100gm soap, made me drop the idea...

I have heard rave reviews of Lush as a brand...and wanted to know if the products really work, but with the steep price, i was just not ready for buying it.

The lazy weekend prompted me to have my take on the charcoal scrub :)

This is my version of the Charcoal scrub:

Ingredients:
1) Charcoal piece
2) Rose water

Grind the charcoal, add rose water, get a consistency of your choice, and apply.
Let it rest for 5 mins...

Pros:
1) To my surprise it worked, my skin was baby soft and supple
2) I had some tinie winnie pimples, which just vanished, dont know how..
3) It kind of took care of the excess oil, and didnt leave my skin dry.

Cons:
1) very hard to clean
2) Messes up the entire place
3) Abrasive, people with sensitive skin, pls make a note of this point

All in all, i found it worth a try...because no scrub gave me the soft skin, which this scrub gave me, and bonus is at the convenience of my home, and at almost dirt cheap price....

Apple Cider Vinegar and its virtues

Not many of us know the virtues of Apple Cider Vinegar, thus this post...

Apple cider vinegar is made by crushing apples and squeezing out the liquid. Sugar and yeast are added to the liquid to start the fermentation process, which turns the sugars into alcohol. In a second fermentation process, the alcohol is converted by acetic acid-forming bacteria into vinegar. Acetic acid gives vinegar its sour taste.

Apple Cider Vinegar, can be used for a host of things in life, be it skincare, haircare, health benefits...Few of the benefits are listed below:

Health:
  • Reduces cholestrol
  • Good for people suffering arthritis problem
  • Balancing blood glucose levels
  • Boosting immune system
  • Controls weight gain :D
Skincare
  • A spoonful of apple cider vinegar, when added to a glass of water, can be applied for glowing skin
  • Helps clearing blemishes
  • Exceptionally good for pimple prone skin
  • Balances the oil generation
Haircare:
  • Spoonful of apple cider vinegar with glassful of water, is a great substiture for leave in conditor. It stinks for a while, but it dies down within 5 mins
  • In the same liquid if you add a pinch of baking soda, is a good treatment for dandruff
My way of cheat using apple cider vinegar in my daily chores
  • Make a bottle of 1:5 proportion of apple cider vinegar and water handy, and use this as a substitue for limejuice in your recipes
  • Use spoonful from the same bottle for cleansing your skin
  • Drink a cup of this water daily to reduce weight
  • Take a cup of the same liquid for leave in conditioner
Apple cider vinegar is easily available in many of the super marts, malls etc... For me a bottle easily lasts for a month.

Wonderful goodies in my backyard

It had almost been over a week of my suffering with the mouth ulcers, i tried all kind of solutions like having B-complex tables, switching to a liquid diet, but to no relief......
I believe, my ordeal lasted for long, cos of my husband and my colleagues prayers, they were having a fun time seeing my antics...i am amongst those female who yaks a lot. And i completely agree to the fact that, this would have been the best one week of their life :P.....Well, my husband even says, i forget to breathe while talking....To give a relief from my mouth ulcer problem, my dear brother came up, saying did you apply glycerin at the ulcer, i said no, i applied mouth ulcer gel which i got from the chemist. Well my brother is an MBBS doctor, and never in my dreams did i expect him to rubbish off a medicine and use things from the backyard, which leads to this post :D

Some utility of the goodies from my backyard:

1) Glycerin: For treatment of ulcers, can double up as an ingredient for facepack, or works well as lip balm..
I use in my batter for making softer cakes.
Can be used to nourish dry hair....and oh yes, it tastes great.

2) Camphor tablets: Ingredient for facepack. Works well as natural mosquitoe repellant, just keep 2-3 camphor tablets in a cup of water, and mosquitoes would not trouble you.

3) Instead of naphthalene balls, which make your clothes smell yuck, why not use dried neem leaves to keep your clothes off pest. Also neem leaves can be put in rice, and other grains to keep it longer and away from pest.

4) Curry leaves: Crush the curry leaves, and heat it with oil, and then apply the oil, you will have naturally black hair, and a good hair growth as well. These oil can also be used to relieve from aches
Oh by the way, i have a small curry leaf plant at home :D, and intend to grow tomatoes as well ;)

5) Methi powder: This is a potent treatment for dandruff, as well as acne.

6) Vinegar: Add 2 spoonful in one glass of water, and scrub your kitchen platform with it. It will smell good, and keep insects away, i do it once a week. Also it can be used to clean the microwave, just microwave the liquid for 2 minutes, and microwave would be free of all the food smell.

7) Aloe vera: For immediate cure against burn, quick soother, and calmer...Aloe vera can be consumed to improve your metabolism, and is a good solution for constipation...

I have a desire to have a cottage garden, wherin i have my own, homegrown goodies. I have started off with curry leaf plant, and hibiscus, and the next in line are tulsi, and aloe vera.....This is my way of contributing towards a greener planet, and using my goodies for well being, i hope guys you too start with going green and enjoying the backyard benefits...:D

Spa treat.........

The weekends just over, and it has been a relaxing pleasant weekend.....The reason being treating my husband to a spa service by myself :).........

To start off, my very thoughtful husband had gifted me for our wedding anniversary, with a Ladies day out package at Four Fountain spa.........The ambience, the treatment, relaxing massage, and the facial session made me feel like a Queen, but at the end of the day, when i realized the amount of money my husband shelled for it, made me guilty.......
I wanted to make it up for him as well, but my husband being the lazy and shy natured that he is, would never go to a spa, he would prefer the spa come to him.....

And his very nature, led me to find ways and means of how to provide him with a spa treat, which would be affordable, and yet luxorius........

The steps that i followed were as follows:
Step 1: I used Navratan oil, heated it a bit, cooled them to lukewarm temperature, added 2 camphor tablets. used this oil for head shoulder massage.

Step 2: Used a hot towel

Step 3: Used a scrub made of a ayur face wash + riceflour. Cleaned it

Step 4: Used Biotique Chlorophyll gel to moisturise

For the Facial...

Step 1: Cleaned the face with Lakme deep pore cleanser
Step 2: Scrubbed the face with curd + sugar, let it rest for not more than 5mins, Cleaned
Step 3: Heat water with lemon grass in it, and take a steam
Step 4: Clean your face with cold water, apply a facepack of camphor+lime juice+ sandalwood+multani mitti. Let it dry, takes around 15 mins
Step 5: Scrub and clean it, and apply biotique chlorphyl gel..

The spa experience can be relieved at our homes with the ingredients available at home, and some amount of finetuning with lights, and playing soulful melodies......

And i must tell you, my husband was fresh as a flower after the spa session........ :D

Putting tips into real life usage

I can identify with the confusion, that avid blog readers might have when for a single problem, you are swamped with tips and tricks to deal with........

For a problem, like dealing with acne, or losing weight, or professional problem dealing with an annoying colleague, there are thousand solutions, but what is the way to identify as to which is a foolproof solution. This has been my ordeal for a long time.

My way of identify the most apt solution for a problem is, i try to squeeze in the tip, which major bloggers mention of.. I go by the populist funda ;)

This post comes as an eyeopener about which of the tips, i have started using, and which have worked for me............

Well my favorite 2 blogs menitoned of usage of Vitamin C, like Celin tablets, or natural sources like lemon, orange for skin problems and egg whites........and since it seemed to be pretty simple a tip, i thought why not give a try......

I must say, applying lemon juice to your skin, does wonders, i feel it has tightened my skin, given it a healthy glow, and also reduce the frequency of my regular visitor(the monster pimple).......well i have also added the routine of applying egg white to my skin.........It must be the combined effect of both of them, that lead to the result :D

Another stress point that, all the readers have is how to squeeze in this tips into real life,.........Well i worked out a cheat way of doing this. :P

I have always been wanting to be regular with my breakfast, but was never able to........i realized by introducing egg and lemon juice as my breakfast, i could achieve results in 2 essential areas, to deal with my problematic skin, and have a healthy regime...

The 1st day was a little hectic, since you are not used to schedule of squeezing a lemon, breaking eggs, but from day2, things moved in a jiffy...........

I squeezed the lemon, took the required amount for my face, applied it, by the time i started my preparation for egg, broke the egg, took the required egg white, and made the remaining for omelette.

By the time my face absorbed the lemon juice, omelette was ready, washed my face, applied egg white, and started having, my healthy nutritious omelette, with lemon juice with the egg white on my face ;).........

It just takes a little more effort to try out this handy tips into you day to day life, but the fruits you reap are 1000 times worth the effort............

My suggestion please figure out which tip are you really looking forward to try, and find means to adopt it in your daily life, and for sure the results will soon follow.
