Me being a south indian, i love idlis...but making idlis at home comes with its own set of dependencies, presaoking, grinding, etc etc...
I am not much of a planner, so these idlis come in handy to satiate my south indian craving or my hubby's Dhokla cravings :)
Ingredients:
1 cup Rava
1/4 th cup Curd
1/4 tsp Baking soda
2 tsp Oil
Mix rava, yoghurt, soda and oil.
The consistency should be the same as normal idli batter
Let it rest for 30 mins
Grease the idli plates, and make idlis by steaming it for 10-15 mins..
Idlis ready
How to use it as Cheat Dhokla's
Cut the idlis into small square shapes.
Heat oil, add lot of mustard seeds, curry leaves, hing.
Now add the cut idlies, salt, and garnish it with coriander leaves.
I use this for my breakfast next day, and the idlis for dinner previous day...
Hehe, a working women, has to come up with so much of cheat codes to take care of her laziness :P

ReplyDeleteHey Rentu..today i was craving for south Indian Idlis and here i have the recipe from you..:)
ReplyDeletei use to aadd eno wala soda ..this time i will try with baking soda:)
Hi Rentu..
ReplyDeletejust the time, that im looking for easy ways to make idlis..
i have a doubt..u mentioned 'Rava'..so u neednt add urad dal to it??
and is it not necessary to let it to ferment?? im having trouble with fermentaion process, cos the place i live is quite cold, and the batter is not at all fermenting, but turning rotten.. :(
So u say that baking soda will make it the same way as though its fermented??
hey rentu...u add so many recipes and in here am trying to lose weight. this definitely looks like a great thing to try out.
ReplyDelete@belle: yes, soda and oil would do the needful...remember to add 4 tsp of oil in your case to make it softer...these dont require fermentation at all...
